Website
maintenance

We'll call you back

Real case

A store that sells every day.
One bad update is costly.

Cialdeweb, a Lavazza partner, sells coffee capsules and pods online every day. A badly updated plugin or a payment that gets stuck means lost orders.

We look after the store with monthly WooCommerce maintenance, which covers updates to WordPress, WooCommerce and plugins, backups, checks on orders, payments and products, and fast action when something goes wrong.

  • Every monthstore updates and checks
  • Backupbefore every update
  • One contactwho knows the store and the management software

A website that never gets updated
breaks sooner or later.

Website maintenance is the work that keeps a website updated, backed up and running, before something breaks. WordPress, WooCommerce and plugins release updates every week. If nobody keeps up with them, the website gets slow, a payment method stops working or someone gets in through a hole left open. Usually you find out when a customer writes to you.

With monthly maintenance someone who knows your website takes care of it. Maintenance for a WordPress website costs €190 per month, for a WooCommerce store €290 per month, with checks on orders, payments and products. For a single problem there are hour packages, from €350 for 5 hours.

The website maintenance service covers websites we built and websites built by others. We run it from Ciriè (Turin), since 1999, for businesses all over Italy. On the brochure websites we build, hosting and maintenance for the first 12 months are already included.

Maintenance of a WordPress website and a WooCommerce store

What's included

What website
maintenance includes

These are the tasks included in the website maintenance service. No vague items, just what we actually do every month.

  • Updates to WordPress, theme and plugins

Updates are done by checking that the website works after each one, not by clicking "update all" and hoping. A plugin that is no longer compatible gets replaced before it breaks something.

  • Website backups

A copy of files and database, also taken before every update. If something goes wrong we go back to the previous state instead of repairing by hand.

  • Fixing what stops working

If the website crashes or a feature stops working, getting it back up is covered by the plan. You do not have to request a quote every time something breaks.

  • Checks that the website is online and working

We check that the website responds and that the pages that matter work, so we spot the problem before your customers do.

  • For WooCommerce maintenance, orders, payments and products

On an online store we also update WooCommerce and its extensions and check that orders, payments and products work. That is the part that separates a website that exists from a store that sells.

  • One contact who knows the website

You always talk to the same person, who knows how your website is built and what was changed last time.

Routine and extraordinary work

What WordPress maintenance
does not cover

The maintenance plan for a WordPress website covers routine maintenance, meaning keeping the website as it is, updated and working. It does not cover work that changes the website, such as new pages, new features or a change of hosting, or the cleanup of a hacked website. For those there are the hour packages of WordPress support, or a fixed-price quote when custom software needs to be developed. The hour package and the plan can be combined.

Online stores

Why e-commerce maintenance
costs more

A brochure website that is down for an hour loses a few visits, a store that is down loses orders. In e-commerce maintenance every update also has to be tested on cart, checkout and payments, and after the update we check that orders come through and that the products are correct. That is why the WooCommerce plan is €290 per month. If the store runs on PrestaShop or has a problem that needs solving right away, the right page is the one on WooCommerce and PrestaShop e-commerce support.

Yearly cost

How much website maintenance
costs per year

With the plan, website maintenance costs are fixed and you know them in advance. For a WordPress website they are €190 per month. For a WooCommerce store they are €290 per month, because every update also has to be tested on cart, checkout and payments. On the brochure websites we build, the first year of hosting and maintenance is already included.

How much work a website needs depends on how it is built. What weighs in is the number of plugins, integrations with management software or couriers, custom code and how much an hour of downtime costs your business. A website with a few well-chosen plugins is easier to maintain than one with dozens of extensions to update.

Without maintenance

What happens if you skip
website maintenance

For a few months nothing happens, which is why website maintenance gets put off. Then a plugin that has not been updated becomes incompatible with the hosting's new PHP version, a form stops sending emails or the checkout freezes. The official WordPress security guide lists outdated plugins and software among the most common causes of attacks.

At that point it is no longer about updating but about repairing, often urgently and without a recent backup. If the website is already down, the way forward is WordPress support with an hour package. If it has been hacked, start with the guide on what to do with a hacked website.

Monthly plan or hour package

Which option
is right for you.

It depends on how much your website works for you every day.

The monthly plan makes sense if

  • The store sells every day and downtime is costly.
  • The website uses many plugins that update often.
  • You want someone to check orders and payments regularly.
  • Nobody in your business looks after the website.

An hour package is enough if

  • You have one specific problem to solve, once.
  • The website is simple and rarely changes.
  • You need a change or a new feature.
  • Someone in your business already handles the updates.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
about website maintenance

How much does website maintenance cost per year?

Maintenance for a WordPress website costs €190 per month, for a WooCommerce store €290 per month. On the brochure websites we build, hosting and maintenance are already included for the first 12 months. For a one-off job, without a plan, there are hour packages, 5 hours €350, 10 hours €600, 20 hours €1,100.

What does website maintenance include?

It includes updates to WordPress, theme and plugins, website backups, fixing anything that stops working and checks that the website is online and working, with one contact who knows the website. For a WooCommerce store it adds updates to WooCommerce and its extensions and checks on orders, payments and products.

How often should WordPress be updated?

Updates should be checked at least once a month, because WordPress, themes and plugins release them constantly. With the plan, updates and checks are regular, every month, and before every update we take a backup, so if something goes wrong we can roll back. That is what we do, for example, on the Cialdeweb store.

What happens if I skip maintenance?

At first nothing, which is why many people put it off. Then a plugin that has not been updated becomes incompatible, the website slows down or a payment method stops working. The official WordPress security guide lists outdated plugins and software among the most common causes of attacks, and cleaning up a hacked website is a much longer job than an update done on time.

Do you maintain websites built by others?

Yes. We start with an initial check of versions, plugins, backups and security to understand what state the website is in. If something needs fixing first, we tell you and estimate it before we begin.

Monthly plan or hour package, which is better?

The plan makes sense if the website or store works every day and you want someone to look after it regularly. The hour package is fine for a specific problem or a change, 5 hours €350, 10 hours €600, 20 hours €1,100.

If the website goes down, how quickly do you step in?

During business hours we start the analysis within the hour. Emergencies, such as a website that is down or a store that is not taking orders, are handled from 7 AM to 11 PM, holidays included.

Can I cancel the maintenance plan?

Yes. The plan has a minimum term of 3 months, after which you can cancel whenever you want with one month's notice.
